Public or Private
You have full control over how members access your Tribe. Public community content is viewable by anyone and registration is not mandatory to access the content. On the contrary, in the case of a private community, content can be viewed only by the registered members.
You can check Community access to find out how you can update your community's access.
Benefits of a Public Community
- Discoverable content via search engines
- An opportunity for visitors to browse the community before registering
- Increased brand and domain authority
Benefits of a Private Community
- Secure conversations and discussions
- Members feeling exclusive
What if you could have the best of two worlds? It's possible! You can set the main community as public and create private groups exclusively accessible for certain community members. Learn more about creating private groups here.
Exclusive or Inclusive
Now that you have set how contents are accessed in your community, you should decide how users can register. Is this open for anyone to join and register or is only invited people can sign up.
You can review the steps on how to set the community registration policy here.
If you set up the registration as Public, then anyone can register. If you set it as Invite, only the ones you invite will be able to access the community. To invite users, you need to go to Admin Panel > Members > Invite Members. Learn more about inviting members to community here.
Tribe has made it easy to add those links.
1. Click on your profile image at the top right-hand section and then choose "Admin Panel".
Once the links are set, they would show up on the right sidebar of the community.
